Ridge augmentation is a type of bone grafting procedure, and is usually performed to recreate the natural contours of your gums and jawbone, restoring the height and width of the alveolar ridge. It may be performed in preparation for an implant placement or for aesthetic purposes.

During this procedure, we will lift the gum away from the ridge to expose the defect in your bone. Our periodontist and oral surgeon will fill this defect with bone grafting material or a bone substitute. The incision will then be closed. There will be several months following your procedure in which the area is allowed to heal and start regenerating healthy bone tissue.

If you are receiving a dental implant, your implant placement surgery may occur during either the ridge modification procedure or following the healing period. The timing of this surgery will depend on your case and the type of implant being provided.
