Plaque accumulates on your teeth by turning into calculus (tartar) within 24 hours. While a thorough oral hygiene routine will help control the plaque and calculus in your mouth, you will also likely require specialized treatments to keep your mouth healthy. When you have completed your gum disease treatment, we will recommend a series of regular maintenance appointments. These appointments usually occur four times yearly, though we may recommend more or less frequent treatments depending on the state of your oral health.
