Dentures are removable oral appliances designed to resemble your natural teeth and restore your ability to chew, speak and smile. They also help to improve your overall appearance by supporting the tissues of your face and giving you a healthier appearance. Partial dentures are used when some of your natural teeth remain. Complete dentures are recommended to replace an entire arch of teeth.

Complete dentures (also known as conventional, full, or immediate dentures) are designed and placed after your teeth have been removed and the gum tissue has healed (a process that takes 4-6 weeks). You will be without teeth during this period. Alternatively, you can choose to receive immediate dentures, which are complete dentures placed immediately following the extraction of your teeth. Please be aware that if you choose to receive immediate dentures our dentists will need to make adjustments to your appliance as the tissues of your mouth heal and shrink.

Partial dentures leave your remaining natural teeth in place, preventing them from shifting, and are secured in your mouth with clasps or a thin framework.

You can schedule several appointments with our dentists over a few weeks to receive dentures. During these appointments, we will take impressions and measurements, and there will be several “try-in” appointments to ensure that your dentures fit properly.

After you receive dentures, you will experience some soreness and difficulty with speech and chewing while your mouth adjusts to the appliance. You will also experience an increase in saliva flow in your mouth.
