There are several regenerative procedures that our periodontist may recommend, depending on the severity of the gum disease in your mouth and your oral health needs. These treatments include:

• Bone Regeneration – this treatment is often recommended before you can receive a dental implant or other restoration. Implants require a certain level of bone density to support the restoration. Natural bone regeneration (also known as bone grafting) is one of the most commonly used procedures to promote growth and help you regain healthy bone tissue.
• Gum Tissue Regeneration – this procedure is more commonly referred to as gum grafting or soft tissue grafting. It is used to help restore, regenerate and symmetrically contour your gum line.
• Pocket Reduction Surgery – this treatment helps reduce the depth of the gum pockets that host harmful bacteria and makes it more difficult for those bacteria to re-colonize and re-infect your gum tissue. Pocket reduction surgery is very effective in halting tissue loss and promoting healing in the gums.
• Scaling & Root Planing – “Scaling” refers to the removal of plaque and tartar from the area above the gum line, and is usually performed during routine dental cleanings. It is accompanied by root planing, during which tartar and toxins are removed from below the gum line, and the tooth root is smoothed to promote healing and prevent bacteria from re-colonizing. This treatment is often the first procedure attempted, and surgical treatments may be recommended if scaling and root planing are not successful.
